Camping - sort of

This one is mostly photos because we have been busy with summer fun!

This weekend we set out to do that ultimate adventure with young children – tent camping. First, let me make it perfectly clear that we did not go for the big time (you know, canoe, backpacks, off into the bush – not that we do that without kids anyway : ). For Charlotte’s inaugural journey into the Canadian wilderness we felt that a little “wimp camping” was in order.

Thanks to the organizational skills of our friend Shannon, we went with a group of like-minded, small-child-toting families to Logos Land. There were six other families (well, there were more but 2 had already bailed by the time we got there) and I can genuinely say that everyone had a blast. The place is made for kid fun: waterslides, beach, lake, petting zoo and of course concession stand selling ice cream, slushies (my fav) and Popsicles. What more could a kid (OK, and parents too) want? AJ, of course, had a blast. She must have gone down the waterslides at least 100 times.

We left home Saturday morning so there was only one night in the tent in case it turned out to be a really bad idea. Turned out the night was as good as any other (i.e. Charlotte woke up 2x before midnight, at midnight and @ 5:00 am) and we remembered how much we like our tent. Here are some photos of the girls 'the morning after.'

Best line of the weekend goes to AJ. After finishing her dinner she looked over at us with a coy smile and said, "May I please be excused from the cooler, please." The kid cracks me up sometimes.

So, while it was not a wilderness experience by any stretch, it met the important criteria.
1) We got out of the city on a very hot weekend
2) We got to sleep in a tent FUN
3) We got to play in the water all day **even more FUN**
4) Charlotte tried something new and liked it
On the way home we stopped at Storyland. Again, AJ had a BLAST. Charlotte was too young to really enjoy most of it, but she had fun too. The big things for AJ were the parade, the Alice in Wonderland Tea Party and sing along, and of course the splash park. The staff there did a great job of getting the kids involved in everything they were doing.

In other news…. The pooping thing slightly better and Charlotte is doing an amazing job at learning new tricks. The big ones are:
- waving good-bye
- pulling herself up and standing
- walking holding hands (this is back-breaking since she wants to do it ALL THE TIME)
- eating without barfing (we’ve had 4 puke-free days in the row….touch wood)

This week’s adventure is……hanging around the house and planning birthday parties!! AJ is the 20th and Charlotte is July 23!!
