Lanterns, Friends and Relatives
Remember how I used to post updates weekly, then bi-weekly, and then less than that..? Well, just so there are no surprises, let me break it to you. Plan on monthly updates. That is about our speed right now.
Here are the highlights of the end of Sept.
Lantern Festival and Toronto
The last weekend of September we did a big road trip. Originally it was supposed to be a nice, mellow, Toronto visit, but it became clear as we were planning the rest of the fall that there would be no way to get to S. Ontario to see the rest of the family for a while. So….we packed it all into one extra-long weekend.
We started in Toronto with the Lantern Festival and a visit with some of the families in our China travel group. Derek, Darshini and their lovely daughter Jasmine were kind enough to host us overnight, and arrange a great social calendar for us.
Friday we had dinner with them, Julie/Craig/Aislyn, and Joanne/Sophie and a huge Chinese buffet. It was like being back in Beijing, the place was packed and so lively!
After that we hit the lantern festival. The girls absolutely loved it. It meant staying up WAY past bedtime, but it was well worth it.
AJ took a ton of photos. 
The next morning we hit the zoo. (we can’t do a Toronto trip now without it). Have I mentioned how much we ....errr.... the girls love the zoo? We go there for them of course. : ) It was lots of fun for both the kids and the parents.
Next stop - S. Ontario: great-grandmas, aunts, uncles and cousins
After lunch at the zoo we jumped in the car and headed for London. Our first stop was at the home of Steve’s sister and her family. This is always a great time as the girls love to see their ‘big cousins’ (who are all in their 20s).

On Sunday morning we jumped in the car and headed further south to see both great-grandmas. Grandma Elsie is 85 and Grandma Ruby is 95! Both visits were short but nice.
And finally, that afternoon we stopped by my aunt and uncle’s house to visit with them and my cousins. AJ took the opportunity to show off her most recent gymnastics’ obsession – handstands.
Lots of visiting – but lots of fun. Thanks for hosting, Auntie Millie!
